Lansing Community College
- A data breach between December 25, 2022, and March 15, 2023 compromised sensitive information, including Social Security numbers.
- The college agreed to a $1.45 million settlement, with individuals eligible for up to $2,000 depending on documented losses. They also committed to improving cybersecurity measures.

- In 2024, more than 20 small to medium school districts across Long Island were breached, exposing over 10,000 students' personal data.
- Intrusions often resulted from phishing, fake login pages, and malicious ads, particularly affecting districts with limited budgets.
Lower Merion School District (“WebcamGate”)
- The district activated webcams on school-issued laptops without students’ knowledge, capturing thousands of images.
- In 2010, the district settled a class-action lawsuit for $610,000 over invasion of privacy.
Carruth Compliance Consulting – Indirect Impact on Schools
- A December 2024 breach at this retirement plan provider affected over 110,000 school employees across various small districts, exposing financial and personal data (SSNs, tax info, Wโ2s).
- Multiple class-action lawsuits have since been filed against the firm.
Penndale School District (Penncrest SD)
- Part of a larger list of small districts hit by ransomware in 2020, this Pennsylvania district reportedly paid $10,000 to recover from the attack.
